Your Sacred Space

My yoga mat lives on the floor in my office. It’s there whenever I need to roll around on the ground and unwind or to enjoy a five-minute savasana. It’s a special place, and I love knowing that it’s there. Yet sometimes, I take it for granted.

I’ve always looked at my yoga practice as a sacred practice – a time for me to be with me: to be in my body, to be with my breath, to be with my thoughts and try to unwind all of the above and find a little more space and quiet within.  But because my mat is out all the time and I can hop on it whenever I need to, it’s easy for me to forget its specialness and sacredness.

I think there is something valuable in considering the way we enter into our practice.  I don’t mean that it has to be an elaborate celebration – although it could be…Imagine candles and incense burning, your favorite music playing, crystals all around you  - that would be amazing in my book. But simply taking a moment before you step onto your mat to pause and breathe and know you are stepping onto your mat, into this sacred circle, if you will – that could be really powerful.

How do we enter our practice, how do we leave our practice, how do we enter the next part of the day?  All of these transitions are things that I’m thinking about and playing with.

Email me and let me know if you have any special rituals that you do before you start your practice or after you end it.  I'd love to hear about them!

Join me for classes - the schedule is here - we'd love to have you!
