This spring has been a most exciting time for me, largely because I am finally taking an advanced yoga teacher training that I have been wanting to take for years!  It’s been pretty intense, and I have to say I love it. I love being a student and learning new ways to think about movement and teaching movement.  I have tons of homework and a great cohort of fellow yoga and movement teachers to nerd out with.

We just had a lecture on neuroanatomy, which was waaaay out of my league (I’ll be listening to the recording a lot over the summer to try and make sense of it all), but at the end the lecturer shared the above video, which blew me away.  As fellow yogis, I thought you might like it as well.

This video shows how the brain actually moves with each breath and heartbeat.  And thanks to new developments with MRI technology we can see that here.

Deep breathing can affect the flow of cerebrospinal fluid in the brain, a clear fluid that surrounds and bathes the brain.  That fluid can help flush the brain, particularly during the night while we are sleeping. Breathing can also impact brain activity and blood flow to the brain.  So, good rest and deep breathing go a long way in keeping our brains healthy.  Our breath can act like a massage for the brain – pretty cool!

And with that thought, here's a brief breathing practice to help you rest, refresh and massage your brain!

Check out my classes here and let's move together!
