Practice Something

With all the changes going on in my life right now, it has been difficult to maintain a consistent practice.  And honestly, I've been a little less inspired to get on my mat and practice and meditate. 

In fact, over the last few weeks all I've wanted to do is let the stress build up inside of me and either explode or mope about it, and then of course, beat myself up for not rolling out my mat and practicing.  So not productive, right?!?!?!

 

What can we do when we feel less than inspired to practice or meditate or do whatever it is that we know is good for us?  Well, for sure we can't beat ourselves up about it.  Instead, try thinking about why you are really not "practicing". 

If the stress is weighing you down, maybe you really don't have time or energy or the mental capacity for a formal practice of a certain length.  Instead try to show yourself some compassion, and trust that you will get out of the funk you are in.  And then make an agreement to simply practice 1 pose - your favorite pose - even if it's Savasana - and really give yourself, body, mind and spirit to that pose and those few minutes.  If you're inspired to do more, go for it, and if you're not, no worries, it will come.

 

This is my practice right now.  In fact I'm going to sit in Sukhasana (easy sitting cross-legged pose) and do some side-bends.
