Happy fall! As always this time of year is full of shifts and transitions. Jonathan and Maddie Rose are back at school, and my schedule is slowly re-filling with classes. We had such a lovely summer that it’s been hard to let it go, but let it go we must, if nothing else but to open space for the beauty and bounty of this new dynamic season.
This summer was actually a personal practice in letting go…just a little. I visited NYC in June and decided to teach one class instead of two; I decided not to teach my Monday night class this summer; I decided to let go of offering Reiki sessions for the summer; and I decided not to pressure myself to write any blog posts for the month of August.
It was hard to ease up on myself and not do all the things I normally do and in the way I usually do them. But, in letting go of all of the above-mentioned items, I allowed myself some breathing room: I had more time with Maddie, Jonathan and friends to hang out in NYC and share meals, and most importantly I got to witness the loss of Maddie’s first tooth – which I would have missed had I been teaching that second class; I enjoyed eight Monday nights at home, to eat with my family and read books and go out for post-dinner walks and bike rides; I had time to study and to investigate new avenues for learning; and I had a little more space in my schedule to see dance concerts at Jacob’s Pillow.
Sometimes, a little letting go yields lots of space for new and exciting things, or at the very least some time and space to simply rest and relax.
Is there something you can let go of right now – even a little – that will help you feel more spacious and light, more at ease, and more joyful? Feel free to share it on our Facebook page – I can’t wait to hear all about it!
